"At" is more correct. When someone is "in" a school it generally means they are currently inside the school.

@nillafox11 Thank you! But all of those students are literally inside the school, right? This is true to me. Why is “in” incorrect?

@studiousboy "In school" refers to being currently in the building. You probably want to invite students who are not inside the building currently, but are at your school. Using "at" sounds more appropriate in this case. "in" could be correct in a literal sentence, but just sounds a bit weird to English speakers in this scenario.

@studiousboy People would understand it but AT school is what everyone says. It’s grammatically correct , however.

@nillafox11 @newenglandgenie Thank you! Then if someone asks me where I am, which should I reply?
1. I’m at school.
2. I’m in school.

#2 would be the answer to the question: What are you doing these days? I’m in school = I’m attending school

I’m at THE school means I’m physically located at a school building but not sure which school
Where are you right now? I’m at school. = I’m attending my classes
Where are you right now? I’m at the school — this needs an explanation for WHICH school. I’m at the school where my friend John takes classes.
Where are you right now? I’m in the school cafeteria = my school, in the cafeteria.
Confused?! I know how awful this must be learning English 😢

@newenglandgenie Don’t worry, I’m trying to understand the usage of “at school” even though it may be difficult. 😊 Then can I use “at” plus “my school”?
Where are you now?
- I’m at my school.
Does “at my school” sound as natural as “at school”?

@newenglandgenie So when talking about exactly where I am, the preposition should be “at” instead of “in”, right?
