Question about English (UK)
I read a sentence in SLAMMERKIN,which is written by Emma Donoghue.
“Sometimes Mary’s sense of grievance focused like a beam of light.”
I don’t know what is that mean. Why Donoghue use “light” to describe “sense of grievance”?
我在爱玛·多诺霍的书《荡妇》里面读到这个句子,不知道她为什么要这么表达,搞不懂

It wasn’t just light but a beam of light.
Which means she would be very focus was concentrated on a particular thing or issue.
Eg Consider a normal light bulb which disperses light in all directions. But a beam of light (or say a torch) is focused in only one direction.
