Below are beneath are synonyms.
Underneath means beneath and touching.

So I have a mat right behind door to my house.
If I left you a note underneath the mat, you know to pick up the mat to find the note.

If I say it is below the mat, it could be underneath, or perhaps on the table in the basement below the mat.

I think below is commonly used for direction or literal distance, beneath is for metaphorical distance.
