"Coffee addict" is a bit more natural. "Junkie" is generally used to mean someone who is addicted to hard (and illegal) drugs. It can be used metaphorically to describe someone who is "addicted" to other things ("He's a celebrity news junkie"), but using it to describe coffee feels odd to me.

It sounds natural. Addict and junkie are used interchangeably, with junkie being slightly more insulting.

@studiousboy "Coffee nerd" or "coffee geek" would mean that he is very intellectual about his coffee drinking. It would only apply if he's the kind of person who researches different types of coffee and is very serious and particular about what kind of coffee he drinks. A "coffee addict" is just someone who drinks a lot of coffee.

@studiousboy You’re welcome! If you are saying it to a native speaker in a joking manner, it likely won’t be taken badly. 🙂
