He speaks perfect American English without a hint of a Swedish accent, but there’s something about his manner of speaking that suggests that he is not a native speaker. Sometimes foreigners who speak excellent English push it too hard, becoming show offs.
@PBKing you mean he doesn't behave American enough? Or that he's speaking in an unnatural way (not relaxed enough)? Or that he's choosing words and phrases natives don't say? Could you please specify? It would really help me.
You can tell that he has a European accent, even though his English is fluent. For example, he sometimes uses an unvoiced S where Americans would use a voiced S at the end of a word. The way he uses tone is very characteristically Swedish.
@magasum Right- in my opinion his behavior and facial expressions are not typically American. However his American English is so good that it would take a linguistics expert to explain why his accent and syntax are not purely native. I wish I could hear what he sounds like when he is speaking seriously on a complex subject. Regret I can’t be of more help.
