The meaning changes slightly if you remove "with me".
what little money I had with me/on me → 持ち合わせたなけなしのお金
what little money I had → (現金でも銀行口座でも)所有したなけなしのお金
※厳密には一つ目と同じ解釈もできるけど、多義性がある。
