Yes, I use it often. Rather than separate accounts, it is a method of paying one account proportionally among the participants.
例)3人で食事をして会計が21,000円だった。一人7000円で割り勘した。
Three people ate together and the total bill was 21,000 yen. We split the bill at 7,000 yen per person.
• It is not always divided equally, but may be adjusted so that midway participants pay less, heavy drinkers pay more, and so on.
