Several: if you are talking about large number of the same or similar objects/things.
Various: large number of different things that are not the same or similar object/things.
Examples:
Several: We have several coffee locations in the city.
Various: There are various types of fruit in the world.

Several indicates a quantity, maybe three or four. Various indicates that there is greater diversity among the objects than you might expect. For example I could have a collection of seashells I have various seashells coming from all oceans around the world. The key point is, you might expect all my shells to come from one place near my house. But, they come from everywhere

@mlt84 Diverse means there are different things, but it doesn’t tell you anything about quantity. You could have a small amount of diverse things, whereas various implies a larger amount of diversity
