okay so I went to a meeting the other day but sat in a row in front of elders...
does that mean:
I should wait for them to sit before I do?
I should wait for them to leave the building before I do?

@Chai-Yo yes! you can do some gestures with your two(not one) hands meaning 'you go first'. or you can ask them if you want to do first.

if our attention should be directed to the front of the room, should I just make a pause and wait long enough until I hear them sit down? because they were behind me..

@Chai-Yo if it is possible, it would be very careful. but i think if you can't, it doesn't seem too rude.

@Chai-Yo I agree with the answer above. But it's not strict in a close relationship. I mean, if they're your close 언니, 오빠, 선배, it's completely okay for you to sit, eat and leave first. We don't care much about who sits, eats, leaves first. Also, if they allow you to speak casually to them, you can speak informally.
But in a formal setting, when you're with someone MUCH older than you, and besides if you aren't that close to them, what the person above said is good manners. (Other than leaving first in my opinion. Anyone who has a plan or wants to go can leave after politely saying something like I have to go.)
