“To take a back seat”
If you go somewhere in a car and you are not the driver, you can say that you will take a back seat meaning that you can sit in the back. However, if you tell someone “ to take a back seat” can mean “ don’t be in charge” “ let another person be in charge, you sit back”. This would happen in a situation other than driving. It would be the same as saying “ you do not have to lead, let someone else be the leader”.
“ to stay in your lane” means “mind your own business” or “this is someone else’s concern not yours, take care of things that concern you not things that are another person’s right to decide”.
