Yes! Mostly people use "ponytail" and "braid" because these are common hairstyles that are used. Pigtails is a very common children's hairstyle, and plait is similar to braid but plait is usually used in the United Kingdom, Australia, etc.

@studiousboy Yes! Plait is sometimes used but usually I see it used with slightly different braiding styles for people with different hair types and so I personally never hear it

I usually hear people pronounce it as [plat], but @roxas-pill is right about it rarely being said anyway.
