we have a expression in chinese like “内心酸楚，辛酸”，mean： feelings of anguish and sadness，in a word, 酸 is a negative emotions, and it is a very difficult emotion to talk about. E.x 我心里的酸楚没人可以理解。mean “No one can understand the sorrow in my heart”.
