@yu-kin1 consume media in itself is to take in media or, in simpler terms, to view anything in the media (beit the news, instagram/Facebook posts, advertisements, YouTube Videos, etc.)
It does have negative connotations, since it is often used when we talk about the dangers of too much media. We do not want to consume too much media because it is just too much information going into our brains. Therefore, this word has gained a more negative connotation over time

To expand on what he said, I often see it used as a negative term in the way that doing nothing but working and consuming media (internet, video games, shows, etc) without any dreams of your own is a sad way to live. People generally don’t go around saying they’re “consuming media” with a positive connotation.

@yu-kin1 Oh shoot, I just noticed this cuz I have so many notifications LOL, I hope it is not too late for an answer.
Beit or “be it” is a shorter way of saying “whether it be” so “beit the news” means “whether it be the news”
Example: I do not care what we eat today. Be it Chinese, be it Japanese, I am okay with anything.
This the same as saying: I do not care what we eat today. WHETHER IT BE Chinese, WHETHER IT BE Japanese, I am okay with anything.
Be it is just shorter and more concise; it is extremely common in speech. You’ll hear it a lot, and it is often said quickly, so practice looking out for it.
