1.
actually you can say 2. if you change it to “Thanks for making time to answer my questions”. now it sounds as natural as 1. “make time” is a common phrase

@wvtram Thanks for your correction. Can I leave out “the” in sentence 1?
Thanks for *taking time* to answer my questions.

@studiousboy yes you can as well. just “making the time” doesn’t sound good to me. but i’m just being picky here—if you said any of these (even “making the time”) no one would bat an eye

@wvtram Thank you. Can you go over these two sentences for me? Which sounds more natural to you? Or both sound natural?

@wvtram Ok. Then I’m having a hard time understanding the difference between “take the time to do something” and “make time to do something”. Could you explain to me how they’re different?
- English (US)
@studiousboy they are nearly the same, with just a slight nuance. “make time” implies a little bit more volition.
A: “you’re busy with work. are you sure you can come hang out with us tomorrow?”
B: “i’ll make time.”
here, i would not say “i’ll take the time”. why? i don’t know
“take (the) time” sounds natural like “take (the) time to wind down at the end of the day”. although “make time to wind down at the end of the day” also sounds natural
- Simplified Chinese (China)
@wvtram You’re awesome! Thank you. Can I interpret them as “make time” sounds like person B is busier than “take the time” so “take the time” doesn’t work?

@klassiandreams I see. Thank you!
If you don’t mind, I would say there’s one mistake in that Chinese sentence. It should be 那个人 as opposed to 那位人. Hope I’m not being rude. 🙏🏻

@klassiandreams Never. It’s always 个.
这个人,那个人
But if you changed 人 to 客人, 位 would make sense.
一位客人,几位客人
