Question about English (US)

What is the difference between I could hear rain on the roof all night. and I could hear the rain on the roof all night.
?Feel free to just provide example sentences.

I knew we usually use 'the' with different kinds of weather. But I have also heard we can choose 'no article.' And there's little nuance difference in meaning. So what's the difference in the meaning of the sentence of "I could hear rain on the roof all night" and ''I could hear the rain on the roof all night ." Thank you in advance for your help!
