it's just another way of saying happy holidays, It could work for other holidays as well, depending on the holiday, but it's mostly just used for Christmas.

We only say this in December and it’s wishing people good cheer for the Christmas season. With the word “seasons” it can refer also to Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.
Technically, it should be “season’s” but it’s frequently “seasons”. (Greetings OF the season).
