When talking about the metaphorical sense, does "looking into the future/in the future" another way of expressing the same idea? And what does "with much-limited application" mean when considering it in the literal sense? Wait, does it even mean to LITERALLY look at the horizon? I think I'm now kinda confused as to what I have always understood by that.

“Looking into the future” would be another way of saying “looking beyond the horizon.”
