In common parlance is just a fancy way of saying in layman's terms. And I doubt many people would use it in commond speech. Maybe in something more formal, though.

Both mean to say in plain language, but « laymanâs terms « refers to technical vocabulary and jargon related to a professional body of knowledge, such as medicine, law, construction, etc. It would often be used in court after an expert witness explained something that only an expert in his field would be able to understand. «Can you please explain that in laymanâs terms? » the answer would then be a more plain-spoken version, either using an analogy to something anyone would be able to relate to, or a simplification that focused on the outcome or the result vs. the process. « In common parlance » refers to the way most people would refer to something, vs. a more formal term which is often a euphemism or affectation. « Nuptuals » are referred to as a « wedding » in common parlance.
