@pomjoep Ok. Just now you said “no one I know uses 了”. What if I said “I don’t know anyone who uses 了”? Would it sound natural?
- English (US)
@branduhn they are pretty much the exact same thing! Both sound normal!

@pomjoep Ok. Now I do want to ask you about two words. What’s the difference between “house” and “home”?
ex: at my house, at my home
in my house, in my home
How are they different? I’m so confused.

@branduhn well most likely people would understand you either way, but I’ll try my best to explain.
Home is usually used in these cases:
“I just got home”
“I miss home”
“Are you home”
“Are we home yet?”
Using house for any of those would should very odd
House is used like this:
“Is that your house?”
“What does your house look like”
“How many floors is your house”
“This is my house”
And after reading my own examples and putting some thought into it, here is the conclusion I reached.
When you say house, you are using a sentence that has ownership, “my house” “your house”
Home, is a place, you want to “go home”, “are we home?”
Now the one thing I left out, is saying something like “thats the house” “is that the house” “which house” if you say home instead, it would be a little weird, but not enough to turn heads.
So I think your best bet, is to use “home” when talking about it as a location that isn’t possessive. Ex: “let’s go home” since if you swapped it with house, it would seem weird unless you added a to my, to make it “to my house” and outside of that situation say house, I’m sure this isn’t a perfect rule, so lmk if you have any specific questions. And sorry for the long winded response.

@pomjoep Thank you for the explanation! So which word would you use in this blank, “house” or “home”?
I’d like to invite you to my ____.
I’d like to invite you to my ____.
- English (US)
@branduhn I would say house! But if someone said home it wouldn’t be that weird, I just wouldn’t say it. English is very diverse so don’t expect these to apply everywhere.

@pomjoep Ok, what about these two blanks? Would you choose “house” or “home”?
1. Not everyone in our ____ is a morning person.
2. There are four people in our ____.

@pomjoep Alright. I do have another question for you. What’s the difference between these sentences?
1. How is that possible?
2. How is that even possible?
3. How is that ever possible?
1. How is that possible?
2. How is that even possible?
3. How is that ever possible?

@branduhn 2 is just a little more dramatic than 1, and people don’t say 3
