Question about English (US)
Why did they use "to go to the cinema"here? Wasn't it better to just say "at the cinema"?
We're meeting Gary and Sam to go to the cinema-would you like to come?

They are specifying that they're meeting Gary and Sam *before* they go to the movies, and therefore they are going to take the trip together. This person may be trying to say that they are going to walk or drive to the movies together. I will say that this sounds a bit unnatural, though, and if I were speaking to someone I would probably say something like "We're meeting Gary and Sam before we go to the cinema, would you like to come?" The difference is that I added "before" which would clarify what this person is trying to say.

Means they're meeting up (somewhere) to then go to the cinema.

No, definitely not.
"To go to the" have the meaning of "come/go" as in "We're going *to the* cinema"
We're meeting Gary and Sam [to do something, so add "to"]
the something is "go to"
Go to [somewhere, so add the place with the article "the"]
You could only use "at the cinema" if it was a statement like in "we're at the cinema"
To go to ≠ at, on, in
