A "patron Saint of..." is a (Catholic) Saint that protects or takes care of a certain place (city, state, country, etc). Sometimes, the saint can be the patron of a certain profession, even a certain group of people or even animals.
Example: Saint Francis of Assisi is the Patron of animals, the environment and of Italy.
Saint Patrick is the patron of Ireland, and other countries.
The are many saints and most are patrons of several places and causes.
