Very good question.
“Purpose“ is such a well understood quality, that it is easy to understand your sentence without any modifications.
But most native speakers would introduce some kind of specificity –
I think I’ve finally found a purpose in life
I think I’ve finally found my purpose in life
I think I’ve finally found some kind of purpose in life
– These are the kinds of things that you are more likely to see.

The sentence is correct. You can use an article or omit it. It depends on how you are thinking. If you are thinking of a specific purpose, like becoming a surgeon or devoting yourself to religious life, then you would use an article. But if you are thinking of general terms, like you now understand the meaning of life, you don't use an article.
I suggest that you change the verb tense from simple past to present perfect.
"I think I finally have found purpose in my life. For the first time, I understand where I belong in the universe."
""I think I finally have found a purpose in my life. I am going to devote myself to helping the poor, like Mother Theresa."
