@ysneaky Yes, "folks" can mean parents, or family members in general. It's used in this way in North America but not in British English.
"I miss my folks." = "I miss my family."
"My folks are getting old." = "My parents are getting old."

"Folks" by itself just means a group of people. It's a friendly term, and is also a bit of an older word, but it is still used today.
"My folks" would insinuate that you are talking about your parents or family specifically. That is the only time it means that. Otherwise, it just means "people"
