Both are correct. If you heard one noise = I heard a noise. If you heard several noises = I heard noises (such as a conversation plus items dropping).

@Emma-666 I've never heard anyone say "rinsing cup." I actually call it "the cup I use for rinsing" :) Both "rinse cup" and "rinsing cup" sound odd to me.
