@michi_t we would use “boarding” for train passengers.
“Boarding starts 15 minutes before departure time.”
In the US, we don’t have to “check-in” to get on a train. Our tickets are checked after the train departs.

We board trains. If it’s a tour they can check in with the tour company first and then board the train.
