Toss: to (inaccurately/casually) throw, to move (erratically) side or side or back and forth
Turn: to rotate
"Toss" is usually used when something moves erratically, unpredictably, or inaccurately. "Turn" is a much more stand word and just means to change direction.
Furthermore, there is also the phase "to toss and turn" which is usually used to describe someone who is sleeping unpeacefully and moving around a lot in their sleep. The "toss" part of this phrase gives the impression that the person is moving around a lot and can't get comfortable.

@mryoung Yes, you are absolutely correct! It should be "side to side". The other sentence should be ""Turn" is a much more standard word", meaning that it's used much more often and in more situations than "toss".
I think both of these errors were caused by autocorrect, I should have proofread much better before sending!

@OkamiEpping that’s OK.
For example, a person is sleeping. Does Toss mean to move side to side just once? Or from left side to right side, then from right to left, and so on. Isn’t that be called Turn?
I’m a bit confused.
