Question about English (US)

Hello :-)
Do you understand what I want to say from the following sentence?
"Don't be shy, because I am."

What I mean is that "I am too shy to talk to you, so please don't be shy and you talk to me." But I'm not sure it's right to say...

Thank you for your help!
