Question about English (US)
Is "allowed to" necessarily associated with asking and then being allowed? What if I need a word that describes being purely allowed, not depending on asking?

I suppose it depends on the case. Perhaps the most straightforward thing to say is: I have been given permission to [fill in the blank].
'Allowed' is a bit informal but still effective. You can say "I'm allowed to attend" but it may sound childish, like something an elementary schooler or generally lazy speaker would say.
In the case given, however, I would say "invited to a family gathering" or "given permission to attend a family gathering," or something along those lines.
Hope this helps!

@chloe_ktj informal is ok. How would you say, allowed to a miracle or allowed in a miracle?
