"If you earn enough points, you (can) get a free coffee."
To remember it easier, if the first part of the sentence is in present tense, the second part should also be in present tense.
Example: "If you answer this question correctly, you (will) get one point!"
If the first part of the sentence is in past tense, the second part should be like this:
"If you earned enough points, you would have gotten a free coffee."
- The statement is saying what would have happened, if you earnED enough points. (The event already happened, but is just telling you the alternative outcome.)
