What is the difference between save/blow/wake/pick and save up/blow up/wake up/pick up ?Feel free to just provide example sentences.

@RachelSWong “I’m saving for a new car” and “I’m saving up for a new car” mean the same thing-both specifically accumulating funds for something. Perhaps “save up” has a very slight connotation of taking longer and entailing more sacrifice than just “saving.”

Blow is to move air in one direction pr (vulgar slang) to perform fellatio( to blow up is to have had air move air in all directions by force within- 2 specific uses: you use a bomb to blow up a building, the building blows up as a result, or you blow up a balloon, but also metaphorically, a situation could blow up in your face; my father blew up when he heard what I’d done (he was furious)

Sleep, awaken is a synonym The baby uiaually wakes up at three. Don’t vacuum or you’ll wake up the baby You can say wake but that’s usually in a literary or poetic sense on U.S. English anyway, e.g. “if I should die before I wake”; it’s an old form-wake up is more common and modern. Shhh you’ll wake the baby! Sounds stuffy.! Conjugation is idiosyncratic: I woke at 5 am and managed to wake the baby.

@RachelSWong “pick” means to choose, “pick up” means to perform effort to retrieve something or some one, sometimes implying vertically. I picked up the pencil I dropped on the floor. I picked up the phone (and called him). I picked up my sister at school. I picked up two languages during my years in Europe. I’ll pick up a pizza for dinner on my way home. The radio picked up a signal from overseas. To increase: business really picked up in the third quarter. It has a common slang use/: He goes to bars every night to pick up girls. He has some good pick-up lines that help him to do so. (It means to meet someone and convince them to go elsewhere for kissing and usually sex.) He usually picks blonde girls to pick up at bars. Other definitions - you pick your nose, you pick at a scab, you pick on someone (tease or insult), you pick fruit off a tree, pick lint off a sweater, slang “to pick off” is to murder. Anyone who doesn’t pay the drug dealer on time will get picked off at a certain point. That was a good question!!!!
