What is the difference between What size shoes do you wear? and What size of shoes do you wear? ?Feel free to just provide example sentences.

Why is it more common to say, "What size shoes do you wear?" Isn't it supposed to be "what size of+N"? :) Thanks.

“What is your shoe size?” is much more ‘fluent’ and common that “What size of shoes do you wear?”. The second sentence (what size of shoes…) is correct, but it’s longer than the second one. English language tends to, most of the times, simplify everything to make it quicker.
I guess it’s better to use “What’s your shoe size”.
Example
“What’s your shoe size?”
“I’m a 9” or “I wear 9-sized shoes”. I’m European, so I’d say “I’m a 40/I wear 40-sized shoes”.

We don't say "What size of shoes do you wear?" Using "of" in that sentence is incorrect. We do say "What size shoe do you wear?" and "What's your shoe size?". To answer, we usually say just the size or "I'm a size 9", like mlu081 stated earlier. We do not say, "I wear 9-sized shoes." It would be understood, but it is not the natural way of speaking and doesn't make sense.
