Why is this wrong?
"If it should be rain, can you bring the washing in, please?"
The correct answer is "If it should rain...."

Rain can be both a verb and a noun. You can say "If there should be rain..." meaning "if there is rain around." Here, "rain" would be a noun.
Or you can say "If it should rain..." Meaning, if it (the sky, clouds) starts to "rain", here "rain" is an action that the sky is doing. This makes it a verb.

Rain is a verb in your sentence.

You only use "be" if "rain" is an -ING verb or a noun in the sentence.

By the way, "could" is correct and "can" is grammatically incorrect, BUT English speakers use "can" instead so much even though it is wrong, so that "can" actually sounds natural now.
That's why I didn't change the word "can" in your sentence.

@LilChee Thank you for your advice.
So is "could" more polite than "can"? or is the grammar just wrong?
