It is understandable.
Or you could say,
“I waited for 45 minutes. But then, when i went [back] to check the laundry machine, there’s still one [more] minute left.”

“It still needed” is awkward phrasing. I’d suggest: “I waited for 45 minutes. But then, when I went (back) to check the (laundry) machine, there was still one minute left on/for the cycle.”
