Question about English (US)
What does the phrase "due for "mean, and why put it in the middle of this sentence?
Can you use the phrase to make a sentence which can help me understand it
I've checked the dictionary already but still can't figure out🥹
⬇️here's the sentence ⬇️
For psychotherapy, the origins of these violent moods of self-hatred lie in anger due for, but unable to be directed towards, someone else in the world—that has then turned against the sufferer."
Thank you so much ❤️

The whole sentence sounds unnatural to me, like it was written by a non native speaker

This is almost impossible to understand and, I agree, it was probably not written by a native English speaker. (If it was, they need remedial English!!)
I think what they’re saying is
The origins of the person’s self- hatred (hating themself) come from hatred toward someone else which has then turned into self-hatred.

As others have mentioned, it is a bit overly complicated sentence, but I went to the original article and, by reading the surrounding paragraphs, I could understand what the author was trying to say. @newenglandgenie pretty much has it right.
The article says that one of the differences between someone who is sad versus someone who is depressed is that the person who is sad knows what is causing their sadness. Someone dying, for example. And it's usually someone other than themselves which is causing their sadness.
For the person who is depressed, there can also be someone else that is the cause for their depression, but for some reason, they suppress who the cause is (perhaps it's too traumatic for them to think about), and so the feelings of anger or hatred that should be directed towards that person ("due for" that person) is instead, directed at themselves ("the sufferer").
