They are similiar but there is a notable difference.
Eventually means that after a long time, after a long wait, something happened. For example "After several hours the lost kitten was eventually found." or "Winter has to end eventually and then spring will be here!"
Ultimately can mean “finally” or “in the end,” too, but specifically refers to the finishing point in a process or series of events. "Although it seemed benign to begin with, the virus ultimately spread to other countries. "After days of counting and recounting the votes the mayor was ultimately re-elected."

@Ashern I'd not say either is more formal per se. In fact I'd say that often people would use either word to basically mean finally. I think the difference between the two is more nuance. If you used finally instead it would be fine. What you are epxressing basically is "in the end" this was the result....
