It's kind of an ambigious way of asking about what is being done by someone. For example, say I ask you if you can help me move my couch tomorrow. You might say, "No. I can't help you tomorow. I'll be doing something else." And then I might respond, "Doing what, exactly?" Like i almost don't believe you or I'm thinking you are just telling this to me so you can avoid helping.
