I'm grateful for is used for something that has an important impact on you, while I'm thankful for seems more professional and used for smaller impact moments. You would be grateful to someone for helping you out in a difficult situation (for example if your car had broke down), and you would be thankful to someone for opening a door for you.

Of course! They are extremely similar by the way, and could absolutely be used interchangeably to almost the exact same effect in any scenario, so don't think it's too important of a distinction to agonize over.

Wow! Are my answers being translated into Japanese then? If not then your English is incredible

@garrett_ Thanks, I'm flattered. 😅
No, I can understand your explanation in English as it is.
There's still much more I don't know and have to learn about English, haha 😁

Did you know what words like interchangeably and scenario meant?
- English (US)
If so I truly have no idea how you learned that in "a few years of school"

Yes that should be sufficient for any use case I could think of, besides maybe using thankful in a personal sense on the holiday of Thanksgiving too haha, but that's not really important

@garrett_ Two-year-lessons in Univ are virtually matter little. So I would say "six years taken." I don't think I'm proficient at all and signed up for this app to improve my English skills.

ah well that sentence shows it quite a bit more unfortunately. Are you saying the lessons were online? In that case it would be the two year lessons in Uni were virtual (or done virtually), and did not matter
- English (US)
matter little would never be said in that combination
- English (US)
if you were trying to represent the figure of speech where it had no meaning at all and that's why you said virtually, then it should be the two year lessons at uni virtually didn't matter at all.
- Japanese
@garrett_ I mean, "actually" or "in fact" in the context of "virtually." In Japan, candidates study hard to pass university entrance exams, especially highly selective univs, but once entering some school, they often stretch out and goof off.
In addition, English curriculum in univs is just like reviewing what's got so far.
That's why I said 6 years.
Thanks a lot for your suggestion. I've learned a lot! 。◕‿◕。

I see, yeah that meaning was not very clear, usually in that connotation you would say virtually nothing, or virtually everything, because it's saying that you're "virtually" at an extreme. And then "what's got so far" doesn't work because what's is present tense, but got is preterite, so you should say English curriculum in uni is just reviewing what you have learned already.

@garrett_ thanks a lot for the good suggestions, which are really instructive. I'm grateful for your excellent lesson.
