Could you provide some context? I think the speaker in adding on the “and shit” to vulnerability to make it seem less important or possibly mock something but it’s not possible to guess to contextual meaning without the full sentence.

@English_Matsu Hmm the phrasing seems a little odd, but I definitely think that in this case, the speaker is mocking. Poetry is seen as a vulnerable form of self-expression so they are probably mocking them for it.

@English_Matsu The use of “and shit” is typically used to lower the significance or importance of something.
Ex: They were eating cookies and cakes and shit. (Here, they are using the “and shit” to suggest that what they were eating was an unimportant element of the story being told) NOT literally that they were ingesting poop with the sweets.
A similar use is “or some shit” used for showing lack of knowledge or interest.
Ex: They had a tattoo or some shit on their arm. (Here they use the “or some shit to say they aren’t certain what was on the arm; that it could have been a tattoo or something else, they don’t know for sure) NOT literally that they had either a tattoo or a poop stain on their arm.
