I've heard 「やります」used to say "I'll do it." which means 「やる」probably means "to do" with that context, but I know that 「する」means "to do". Is 「やる」just another way of saying "to do" or is it something completely different?

In 普通体, やる is the casual word of する.
In 丁寧体, やります is the casual word of します.
