Sisu is a hard word to accurately translate. Sert is right, but it also means more than that.
It means stubbornness to the point of stupidity (in a good way). It also means having guts to do something that has to be done. Going on even if you know you are going to lose. It has many more meanings, and every Finn in a way creates their own (similar) meaning for the word and what it means to them.
It's a very complex word, in that many Finns have a very patriotic attachment to the word, as it is often associated with talvisota. Sisu is something extremely Finnish and it is hard to accurately describe.
