Christmas has those three big things tied into it, but I don't think (I know they weren't) they where originally planned for the same day. Some people believe that December is when Jesus was born and give their thanks and prayers for him and pass presents to each other showing how grateful they are for one another (not sure if I'm correct here), Santa from the stories I heard used to be 1. An older man who would give gifts to children in his hometown as he was a toy maker. (Old story) 2. A saint who gave gifts and treats to those who do good. 3. The more modern story, he is an old white haired jolly man who prepares gifts in the North Pole for the nice children and goes out once a year to deliver them around the world.
The Christmas tree I don't know too much about it other than once a year for Christmas people (including my family) buy/chop a tree to put in their home so they can put presents under them.
So that's the back story for them, so you can either fall under the category for I love Jesus and celebrate x-mas or (I/my kids) believe in a Santa and he (parents) brings me gifts because I'm good. Or you could be a
x-mas tree worshiper and feed it gifts once a year!

I think the tree might have pagan origins. I believe the gift exchange comes from the Three Wise Man who followed the North Star to where Jesus was being born. They brought gifts.

These things aren't always clear - the easy answer is that all of them originated in
local customs that were absorbed into Christianity as it gradually spread across Europe.
The Christmas Tree may or may not have come from pagan origins. There were various forms of tree-worship in ancient Scandinavia. Likewise, many Christmas traditions actually come from the pagan Yule holiday - which was a set of midwinter festivals celebrated in northern Europe since ancient times. There's some speculation that Santa Claus is a combination of various gods and heroes (e.g. Odin) who were part of these christmas celebrations.
Basically, none of those things really have anything to do with Jesus or Christianity. Christianity appropriated these traditions naturally as it became the de-facto religion for most of Europe.
