What does " sugar coat " mean in the sentence?
I had been taught like other doctors, never to sugar-coat the truth, but to offer up the facts as clearly and as kindly as I could.

Its an common expression that means to make something sound better than it is, or make something seem nice on the surface, i.e. "Sugar-coating" it.
