A Sword is an actual weapon, with the blade being the sharp, metal part. Blades can be anywhere. In knifes, fan, razor, etc.

Blade = the flat cutting edge of a knife, saw or any sort of weapon
Sword = a weapon with a long metal blade and a hilt with a hand guard
