If you can, find a Hallmark store. That is one of the best places to get stuff. However, it really comes down to what you want to bring back, but as long as it means something to you, you'll be fine. ^-^

Thank you!
I've never heard that store. I will google it!
Food, snuck, fancy goods, anything is ok, but I just want to get something very America.

Try to bring back things items specific to your area. Like local sodas/candies (things that won't spoil), t-shirts with the name of the city (go to a Hard Rock Cafe. Good stuff, good food, very American. Take lots of pictures because each one is restaurant is different and unique), and little knick-knack stuff (snow globes, mini statues, etc.) Stuff like that is relatively easy to find.

Thank you for the nice suggestion!!
As you say, pictures could be a very good souvenir. I've never visited a sports bar in Japan. And what the meal is very big is also really interesting to me. I bet those would e a topic of interesting conversation!
Thanks, nebulahime :)

Hard Rock Cafes are really what I'd consider a sports bar, but I like them because it's like a music museum in a restaurant. I meant there is stuff hanging on the walls from famous musicians literally everywhere (even in the bathrooms in some of them!) This is a GREAT way to learn about American pop culture through the ages, and since they are constantly playing songs with the videos on giant TVs, you might even come home with a couple new favorites. I just really like the atmosphere and even though they're all owned by the same company, you never really know what to expect, which is just part of the journey.

I live in a small town in the US that has a pretty strong Norwegian heritage. I would probably get postcards (some of the older buildings have a more Norwegian style, and some of the older places have some signs outside in Norwegian), some of the Norwegian candies from the store, and maybe some chocolates from a local chocolate company.
I think it really depends on your area. If you have something that the place you're living in is well known for, that is always a good idea. It's a little hard because you'll have to transport it overseas though. I'm not sure how strict customs is with food.

I also agree pictures are fun to share with friends and family!

Norwegian heritage..... That sounds very attractive!
I thought I would get some Linz chocolate, but these are from German... If here were Japan, I think I would get some Matcha products or beautiful origami and so on. I really didn't know what is very America.
But thanks to you guys, I feel like I could get something good!
