カードが使えるお店も多くありますよ。私はほとんど現金で払うので、カードが使えなくても不便だなとは思いません。
Many shops in Japan can use card.
I pay only Cush everything, so I don't feel inconvenient.

From my experience living here I'd say some major shops like supermarkets and department stores use cards, but cash is much more reliable. Some places that do take credit cards can only accept ones from Japan. Also, the further you get from big cities the less you can use credit cards consistently.
