I needed two years to know Polish more or less well, I mean at middle level. Now I have a higher level than middle, but I feel that I know a lot more than I know. I consider, if you want to beсome a fluent speaker, you must spend at least four years. It ' s my opinion.

I think it depends on a person. I don't know on what level you're now, are you taking any classes, how regular you're learning etc. so it's even harder to say. You probably know best how long does it take to you to learn new words, grammar and so ever. And polish is considered one of the most difficult languages so just take your time, don't give up and try your best so you'll be a fluent speaker as soon as it's possible for yourself. :)

According to the US government's Foreign Service Institute, it takes Americans approximately 1100 hours to achieve professional proficiency in Polish (see the chart here for more info: http://aboutworldlanguages.com/language-difficulty). Of course, as others has mentioned, it depends on the individual and their learning methods. Keep going, you'll get there!

You have to have high motivation and you have to learn language everyday. There are no shortcuts. ;) Listen, watch and read in your target language – it's natural you can't understand everything now but you'll understand in future.
I've been learning Portuguese for 3 months. I learn it literally everyday and my problems with understanding Brazilians is little. ;) We can chat sometimes for hours in Portuguese without problems.
