They have a similar meaning, but "unapproachable" has a much stronger feeling.

@puffer-fish Also, 'difficult to approach' could just mean 'intimidating', but 'unapproachable' is usually used only in dating/romance

"She was unapproachable the day after her father passed away."
"When it come to tennis, Serena Williams is unapproachable.
"He found her difficult to approach after he leaned that she had cancer."
"She is difficult to approach when she is angry."
You can use them in a variety of situations, but I think unapproachable always carries more weight.
