I get it if they are trying to lose weight but why being too skinny? is there a reason fo that?

Korean beauty standards are much more different than Western standards. By Western Standards it is okay to be more bulky and overweight. But in Korea especially for women they are expected to look as though they are petite and fragile. So they must be skinny. It might be do the type of women Koreans exemplify and idolize. As an example on YouTube there is a video where a YouTuber interviews Koreans girls on the street and asks them if they are fat. It really shows how media such as TV and Magazines really have on influence on how Korea women percieve body image. Even though they agree that their idols look extremely thin its pitiful they still want to look like that.

Korean women are thin because its a trend recently men in Korea like a women who are thin and pale.  Smaller sizes have stylish clothing. The people they see on TV are also quite thin. Koreans even think that being thin means you are self controlled and self disciplined. Korean media depicts pretty as being thin. Opposite from Western Standard where we prefer a more fit healthy looking figure. But to Koreans when they see people like Nicki Minaj they find it unappealing. In their minds fat is ugly its not feminine or delicate. Some Koreans in the video admitted they look beautiful but its not healthy. Instead it looks pitiful.

Like I mentioned earlier aside from Media I did mention that the thinking of Korean men also ties into a Korean women's desire to be thin. But of course not all Korean men think the same. In the case of the second video it appears the men think similarly to western guys. So where does this idea that a Korean man prefers a skinny women come from? Perhaps from dramas. Recently I watched the drama Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo. In this drama there is a scene that really highlights the problem with Korean beauty standards. It is the bar fight scene I have linked below. The man in this drama was rather harsh on these three girls.

Mainly because of the way they looked. They had a bit of weight on them and certainly didn't look delicate at all. Which caused the man to make the comment : Are they even women?. Due to they fact they looked rather obese. This of course caused one of the characters to remark: Just because I'm fat, doesn't mean I'm not a woman. Which of course really seems to highlight how in Korean society they look down on you if you are fat. But praise you if you are thin. As is the case with many Korean idols. A lot of idols are ridiculed if it appears that they are too fat and it causes them to want to be thinner. Like Baekhyun of EXO or most recently Wendy of Red Velvet. It seems to me that based on the video and what I've said beauty standards really negatively affect the mentality of the Korean women.

But of course it is not all bad. This strive to be thin can really help those Korean women who don't have a healthy weight. It can help them to find their problems and lose weight in a healthy manner. As with the video below.

In the end I would like to say, beauty standards shouldn't define how you treat your body. You should treat your body well and be proud of what you have.  If you are overweight or drastically thin you should reconsider how you treat your body and work to better habits.

not only korean but also asian countries like vietnam, japan, china,taiwan,thailand, etc... like skinny and slim body. they don't like so much muscle. we just like a little abs
