その言葉は同じですが、表現が強められて欲しいなら、もっと長い言葉の方がいい。
例えば、誰か夜中で自分を起こしたら、「Are you kidding me?! It's the middle of the night!」と言います。(「マジかよ?!夜中だ!!」という意味です。)でもじつはどっちでもいいです(^^)

Midnight is specific and refers to 12am

In the middle of the night is not specific and usually refers to 1am or 2am or 3am
