Devi usare "mi piace" quando ciò che ti piace è singolare, invece devi usare "mi piacciono" quando ciò che ti piace è plurale.
1) Mi piace la pasta (pasta è singolare).
2) Mi piacciono i biscotti (biscotti è plurale).
3) Mi piace la caramella (caramella è singolare).
4) Mi piacciono le caramelle (caramelle è plurale).

Mi piace is singular. For example "mi piace il gelato". Gelato is a singular noun.
